A local man was seriously burned Saturday while conducting an unauthorized fire in his backyard, resulting in burns that required Life Star to transfer him to a hospital.
The Vernon Fire Department was dispatched to 38 East St. around 3 p.m. Saturday, where they found a 43-year-old man suffering from serious burns to his legs and arms.
Fire Marshal Daniel Wasilewski said this morning that the man was burning a mixture of brush and construction debris without a permit.
The man, whose name has not been released, was transported by Vernon emergency services to Life Star, which then flew him to the burn center at Bridgeport Hospital to be treated for second- and third-degree burns, Wasilewski said.
It is not clear whether the man’s burns are life-threatening or what percentage of his body was burned.
