One dog was killed and another was rescued from a house fire that broke out Tuesday evening in Norwalk. In a news release, Deputy Fire Chief Stephen Shay said the blaze began in the basement of the June Avenue home, which had been converted into a living space. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke emitting from each floor of the house. The owners were not home at the time of the fire, however neighbors told firefighters there were two dogs inside the house, Shay said. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and searched for the dogs, one of which was found and rescued from the first floor of the house, Shay said. The second dog was found in the home's basement. Firefighters tried to revive the dog but were unsuccessful, Shay said. No other injuries were reported.
