The Southington Fire Department this week announced the purchase of two, new devices that just might save your life should something really bad happen.
The SFD said it has acquired two "Stryker Emergency Care LUCAS Chest Compression Systems," which are, essentially, robotic hands and arms that conduct chest compressions when someone is in cardiac arrest.
This initiative was funded by the Southington Rotary Club in partnership with the Main Street Community Foundation and the Bradley Barnes Memorial Trust.
"These devices will aid our emergency medical technicians with chest compressions in cases of cardiac arrest," wrote the SFD." According to firefighters, this device essentially allows a responder to maintain a steady wave of life-saving chest compressions without tiring and allows for mouth-to-mouth to be delivered simultaneously during CPR.
