Retired Wilton Fire Department veteran to be honored with Hall of Fame induction: 'It was a career'

A retired 40-year veteran of the Wilton Fire Department will be honored with induction into the Connecticut State Firefighters Association’s Hall of Fame next month. Jim Gies, who retired in 2018 with the rank of captain, was nominated by his former department for the recognition. “Capt. Jim Gies is one of the individuals who helped get the Wilton Fire Department where it is today,” said James P. Blanchfield, Wilton's fire chief and emergency management director. “Jim always, and still has, a passion for the fire service, and in particular, training. Many of us here currently had the good fortune to work for Jimmy. He represented the town, the department and the fire service as a whole with integrity and professionalism. The Hall of Fame induction is a long time coming and well earned,” Blanchfield said.
