Authorities have ruled as accidental a Thursday morning fire that severely damaged a home in Gumboro. The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office said firefighters from the Gumboro Volunteer Fire Company arrived on the scene at around 9 a.m. with flames engulfing the home, located in the 18000 block of Little Lane. Mutual aid fire companies from Delaware and Maryland assisted Gumboro on the scene. There were no reported injuries. State fire investigators determined the fire originated inside the chimney for a wood stove and was caused by the ignition of combustibles within the chimney. The structure suffered severe damage that was estimated at $100,000. The American Red Cross is providing emergency assistance to the home's two adult occupants who were displaced.
