Fire damages Newark townhouse

An early-morning fire damaged a home in the College Park neighborhood of Newark on Monday. The fire broke out around 2 a.m. in the 100 block of Madison Drive, and firefighters arrived to find flames coming from the back of the townhouse, according to Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company officials. All the occupants were able to escape from the house, and no one was injured. Aetna was assisted by the Christiana, Mill Creek, Cranston Heights and Minquas fire companies, as well as New Castle County Paramedics and the Newark Police Department. The state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
