Cooking materials are the culprit in a Saturday afternoon house fire that did roughly $1,200 dollars in damage to a house in Newport. Minquas fire crews were called to the 100 block of Laurel Lane around noon, and found smoke coming out of the house's front door, Delaware State Fire Marshal's investigators said. Firefighters contained the flames to the kitchen, and no one was hurt. Two smoke alarms in the house functioned properly.
