Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company is eyeing the former Burger King property in downtown Newark as a potential site for a new fire station – part of a $14 million plan to modernize the fire department’s aging facilities. The one-acre property at the corner of South Chapel Street and Delaware Avenue was purchased by Lang Development Group in 2019. Aetna is in talks to do a land swap with Lang – the fire department would get a piece of the Burger King property and Lang would take ownership of Aetna’s historic Academy Street property, Aetna President Dan Seador said. “One of our desires all along has been to stay in the central business district of Newark,” Seador said. “We appreciate our connection with the community and we wanted to be at a place where we could do that very easily.”
