Kent County House Fire Sends Two to Hospital

The State Fire Marshal's office is investigating a Friday morning fire that injured two people near Houston. The fire was reported shortly after 12:30 am at a home in the 3000 block of Jackson Ditch Road. The Houston Volunteer Fire Company responded and found the home engulfed in flames. A 14-year-old boy and a 33-year-old woman were injured. The teen was admitted to the Crozer Medical Center in Upland, Pennsylvania with burns. The woman was admitted to the Bayhealth Sussex Campus suffering from smoke inhalation. Both victims are currently listed in stable condition. Investigators are searching for the fire’s origin and cause. Fire damage was estimated at $125,000. Five people were displaced by the fire and the American Red Cross is providing emergency assistance.
