Southbound Delaware Route 1 is reopened after a tractor trailer caught fire south of Smyrna Wednesday afternoon.
The tractor trailer with Amazon emblems caught fire in the area of mile marker 68, about two miles south of the South Smyrna exit just before 5 p.m. on April 24, 2024.
It took fire crews about 45 minutes to extinguish the blaze, but the roadway had to be closed for nearly four hours to deal with a fuel leak and removing the truck from the side of the road.
At its peak, thick black smoke from the truck could be seen for miles.
Delaware State Police is investigating the incident.
