Two people were rescued from their burning second-floor apartment on Monday thanks to some quick-thinking bystanders, according to Tampa Fire Rescue. The incident took place at about 4:55 p.m. at the Parkview Apartments at 10981 Brittany Lane, just off N Florida Avenue. A fire broke out in a downstairs kitchen and quickly spread. When firefighters arrived they reported seeing smoke and flames shooting out of the top and bottom units on one side of the brick-lined apartment building. Neighbors and auto dealership employees — one of them a former New York volunteer firefighter — used a ladder to help a man and woman escape the second-story flames. That likely saved their lives, said Tampa Fire Rescue.
