Paramedics took one person to a hospital and treated another on the scene after an incident involving chemicals Friday at a building in Palm Springs, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue reports.
Fire Rescue crews responded at about 1 p.m. to reports of a fire on the 1500 block of South Congress Avenue, north of Forest Hill Boulevard. The first arriving firefighters were told there may have been an explosion inside the building, said Capt. Albert Borroto, spokesman for Fire Rescue.
Further investigation revealed that two chemicals had been mixed together, causing a significant reaction that dispersed power throughout the work area.
Fire Rescue crews and a West Palm Beach HazMat team cleared the area and confirmed there were no life-safety hazards, Borroto said.
