In an abundance of caution, Martin County Fire Rescue says they recommended self-isolation for multiple firefighters after possible exposure to COVID-19.
They say the firefighters have been asked to provide regular updates to the department until test results are returned.
“With the responsibility of serving our residents and visitors on a daily basis, we want to ensure we are leading by example and following the necessary guidance from public health officials, such as maintaining adequate supplies and actively practicing social distancing in our fire stations," said Chief Bill Schobel, Martin County Fire Rescue.
Officials say with just under 400 Martin County Fire Rescue employees and 315 on the street, current staffing protocols require a minimum of two per rescue and three per suppression apparatus.
