A fire sparked inside a Cape Coral home on NE 1st Place in the Mariner neighborhood Sunday morning. Cape Coral fire crews said it was caused by several candles that the residents had surrounded by decorative wreaths. The candles caught a table and surrounding combustibles on fire. The smoke detector alerted the residents, and they tried to put out the fire without success, according to Cape Coral fire. Everyone escaped through the back door and a front bedroom window. The Red Cross confirmed volunteers responded to the home early Sunday morning. Fire officials said six people, including four children, were impacted by the blaze, according to the Red Cross. Local Red Cross volunteers with the Disaster Action Team helped coordinate emergency aid for those affected by the fire.
