Naples City Council voted unanimously on Thursday to select Fire Chief Pete DiMaria as interim city manager effective Nov. 6.
The city of Sanibel recently hired Naples' interim City Manager Dana Souza as its permanent city manager starting Nov. 15. Souza's last day with Naples will be Nov. 5.
Souza, the deputy city manager, was selected as interim city manager in May following the resignation of Charles Chapman.
The city manager oversees a $176.8 million budget for the city of 19,115 people.
Starting in 2016, Souza served for more than four years as the city's director of parks and recreation. DiMaria said he will bring the same team spirit that he said characterizes the fire department.
"We are a successful fire department because we work together as a team," he said. Councilman Gary Price said DiMaria has enough support staff at the fire department to acquire more responsibilities as interim city manager.
