Popular restaurant destroyed in Atlanta fire

VIDEO: A Caribbean cuisine favorite in Atlanta’s Castleberry Hill community went up in flames Saturday morning. Dat Fire Jerk Chicken on Northside Drive was burnt to a crisp after the fire officials said it started around 11:30 am. Video obtained by FOX 5 shows fire crews on the scene as smoke and flames poured from the roof of the restaurant. "We had a fire here in our grill area," Chef Jay John told FOX 5. "It is a tragic situation…would not wish this on anyone." John, a graduate of Clark Atlanta University, told FOX 5 he watched as flames turned the business he spent nine years building into charred remains. "Absolutely devastating…you see something that you built with your own two hands, you see a vision that you have destroyed…it’s devastating," he said.

Atlanta firefighters step up to combat lung disease in charitable climb

VIDEO: Hundreds gathered in Atlanta, including many local firefighters, to participate in a rigorous charity event aimed at combating lung disease. The "Fight for Air" climb, now in its 18th year, drew participants from various metro-Atlanta fire departments who donned their gear and ascended the Promenade Tower—one of the state's tallest buildings. The challenge involved climbing nearly 40 floors, totaling approximately 800 steps. More than 350 people participated in the event, which benefitted the American Lung Association. Gwinnett County Fire Chief Fred Cephas expressed enthusiasm about the occasion. "To come together for a good cause. There's nothing tragic going on. We just have an opportunity to compete and come together. That's awesome," he said.
