Sumter County has a newly appointed Fire Chief

In a release from the Sumter County Fire and Rescue, they are welcoming a new Chief this morning. According to the post on Facebook, the Sumter County Board of Commissioners announced Tuesday night that Jerry Harmon had been selected as Fire Chief of Sumter County Fire Rescue. The release stating, "Chief Harmon is originally from Summerville, South Carolina and began his fire service career there in 1988. Harmon relocated to Sumter County in 1989 and was employed with Americus Fire & Emergency Services as a Firefighter, Engineer, and Captain. Harmon has also served locally with Americus Police Department for 5 years and as County Code Enforcement Officer for 14 years.
