Firefighters made a grim discovery Monday after battling flames at an abandoned church.
According to DeKalb County Fire Rescue, crews were called to Parkdale Drive around 12:30 p.m. When they arrived, the building was fully involved with smoke and flames.
Capt. Dion Bentley of DeKalb Fire said crews had to operate in defensive mode because of the size of the fire and because part of the roof had collapsed
Then, around 4:40 p.m., crews found a body covered by debris inside of the building.
The identity of the person is unknown. DeKalb officials said the cause of death is also under investigation.
