A special graduation ceremony was recently held for new firefighter recruits in Baldwin and Hancock counties.
“I am extremely proud of the hard work and dedication each student put into earning this certification,” said Baldwin County Fire Rescue Lt. Bradley Towe, who serves as fire training officer and fire investigator. “Many fears were overcome throughout this course from the fear of heights or claustrophobia.”
Nineteen graduates participated in ceremonies from the 2020 Firefighter 1 Course.
Currently, the new firefighters are finishing the final steps of completing what is known as Hazardous Materials Operations certification before moving on to the Emergency Responder Course, Towe said.
The new firefighters are required to take the medical course to render basic emergency medical care to victims of involved in various emergencies, he said.
Towe said each of the new recruits has now completed 325 hours of training.
