PHOTO: Investigators say they are looking into what caused a fire that destroyed a building at the Cortland at the Village Apartments on Lake Park Drive Southeast, displacing dozens of residents.
Smyrna fire officials said they were dispatched to the scene around 1:30 p.m. They said they discovered flames engulfing the attic, which they said resulted in heavy damage throughout the building. They said the fire displaced residents in 26 units. Officials also said none of the residents were injured, but they said a firefighter was treated for heat-related illness and was released at the scene. Officials said Cobb County Fire Department assisted Smyrna fire crews at the scene.
While the fire is under investigation to determine the cause, they indicated no foul play is suspected at this time.
