Rabun firefighter suffers medical emergency while fighting brush fire

A Rabun County firefighter suffered a medical emergency while fighting a brush fire in Lakemont Friday evening. Rabun County Fire Services Station 4 responded to a brush fire on Burns Lane in Lakemont at 7:35 p.m., according to a statement from Justin Upchurch, assistant chief of Rabun County Fire Services, in a statement Saturday. "While on scene, one of our volunteer firefighters suffered a medical emergency. Care was rendered by his fellow firefighters until Rabun County EMS arrived," Upchurch said in the statement. The firefighter is currently being treated at Northeast Georgia Medical Center after being transported there emergency from the scene. Rabun County Fire Services will follow-up with updates and is not releasing the firefighter's name at this time, according to the statement.
