A large sign above the entrance to the West Walnut Avenue Burger King that faces the road became engulfed in flames Thursday morning. Members of the Dalton Fire Department arrived to extinguish the fire. "A small fire started on the outside front of the building at the Burger King sign," a report from the Dalton Fire Department stated. "The first arriving crew quickly extinguished the fire with a handline (firefighting hose) and water from the tank. Crews removed the siding and sign to ensure the fire was extinguished." The department stated the cause of the fire stemmed from an electrical issue and that there was no damage to the inside of the restaurant. Fernando Montoya, the manager on duty at the Burger King, said a customer who had ordered in the drive-thru had parked his vehicle around 10 a.m. to inform staff inside that the sign was engulfed.
