VIDEOS/PHOTOS: Emergency crews worked through the afternoon Tuesday on Savannah’s southside to extinguish a fire at the Red Roof Inn on Abercorn Street. A city official said the blaze displaced 50 people and 15 pets. According to the Savannah Fire Department (SFD), the building was evacuated and there were no injuries to report. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The motel is located near the Abercorn Rehabilitation Center, St. Joseph’s Hospital and several businesses. Officials at the rehabilitation center said residents were evacuated. A handful of patients were taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital for evaluation and returned to the rehab facility to shelter in place once they were stabilized. Nearby businesses remained open but said traffic impacted them.
