The Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to a brush fire that broke out Monday noon at a Finasisu compound. The smoke from the fire reached the post office in Chalan Kanoa. The farm caretaker who was at the scene told Variety that he was surprised when the brush caught fire “for no reason.”
Firefighters have been on alert for brush fires since last week.
The fire department also reported brush fires in Chalan Laulau, Obyan Beach area and Suicide Cliff in Marpi.
Last week, Tinian DFEMS reported brushfires in Marpo Valley.
No injuries or damage to property have been reported.
In 2018, DFEMS reported a total of 90 wildfires on Rota, Tinian and Saipan.
The U.S. National Weather on Guam has forecast a dry weather week for the Marianas “with very few showers expected.”
The dry season in the Marianas is from December to June.
