While the Guam Fire Department (GFD) indicated that the “explosive device” found in Agata Marina on Tuesday was discovered by GFD personnel, a video depicting a conversation with a dumpster diver revealed that he was the one who first found the device. The dumpster diver knew that the device was a “fake,” but did not know whom to inform about it. The discovery of the package, which appeared to be a cellphone strapped on to some sort of explosive device, prompted the closure of the Agat Marina and the roads surrounding the area for four hours as federal and local authorities assessed the device. But authorities were still in the dark and apparently had not yet uncovered that the device was a training tool that was not properly disposed of. It wasn’t until Monday evening that GFD announced that the suspicious package was a training device. “I come by and they said they closed the port down,” the dumpster diver said. “They found the bomb and I said, ‘Oh yeah, I know what it is. They think it’s real.”
