We’ve got more on the recent Guam Fire Department firefighter that tested positive for COVID-19. As we reported, a firefighter assigned to Inarajan but temporarily assigned to Astumbo had fallen ill during work on Friday afternoon. The firefighter was secured immediately from duty and took a test right after. It was confirmed that earlier that same day, the firefighter had received their second dose of vaccination at Okkodo High School. It is not clear if the firefighter had been experiencing symptoms prior to getting the shot. We should clarify that the vaccine does not protect you until approximately 7-10 days after the second dose. According to Battalion Chief Ed Chaco, "Even though firefighters get their vaccinations and have waited the prescribed time, they will continue to follow all infection control procedures that are in place. Knowing that the vaccinations will strengthen their immune system will make them a little more confident while performing their duties."
