Southern High School students will be returning to campus on Thursday under their regular schedule after having to leave early on Wednesday due to the detection of gas odor at the school.
The Guam Department of Education, coordinating with SHS Principal Michael Meno, made the decision to release students at 9 a.m. Wednesday to ensure the safety and wellbeing of students and staff, according to a release from GDOE.
Guam Fire Department units responded to Southern High at 6:45 a.m. for a reported foul order.
A GFD investigation led to the discovery of a faulty gas valve and a corroded pipe as the sources of the gas leak, GDOE stated in the release.
