The Honolulu Fire Department was busy Monday responding to brush fire calls around Oahu.
The biggest fire was the one near Central Oahu Regional Park, not far from the baseball field where teams from Pac Five and Mid Pacific Institute were playing, forcing their game to get cancelled.
No one was hurt, but that fire ended up burning 12 acres before firefighters were able to put a stop to it just before 5 p.m.
Smaller brush fires in Waipahu, Ewa Beach and Fort Shafter kept firefighters busy throughout the day.
Scot Seguirant with the Honolulu Fire Department says, while brush fires can happen throughout the year, brush fires tend to happen more often in the summer.
"I would say that generally it's a little early in the season. But when you have the growth with the rain that we've had, as long as it's there. It's ready to burn," said Seguirant.
He says while people may not be able to control where a brush fire occurs, they should take precautions to protect their property from potential fires.
"We want folks to be ready, the best that they can. Be aware. Cut back your brush. Minimize any opportunity for fires to start," said Seguirant.
