A Honolulu firefighter races to the scene of a fire, only to find it's his own home going up in flames.
"It’s really a firefighter's nightmare to answer a call for a fire at your own house," Alika Naluai, Makakilo home owner and firefighter, said.
That's what Naluai did early Monday morning after he got the unthinkable call at work.
"As soon as I heard my address, I couldn’t believe it. My heart sank," he said. Inside the home, his wife heard some unusual crackling noise but didn't know what was going on.
"The sound is what I heard first because I was running down and when I came down here. I looked back that way and I saw the fridge was on fire," Paoakalani Chang Naluai said.
As soon as she saw the blaze, the mother of four knew she needed to leave the house right away.
"I wasn’t gonna try and fight a fire that I wasn’t able to handle. My thoughts was just to get my family out of the house," she said.
