Maui County firefighters have contained a brush fire in Kahului that started Sunday afternoon. Firefighters worked overnight to battle the fire that started in the area of Pulehu Road near Hookele Street, Hansen Road and Hana Highway. By Monday afternoon, MFD said the fire was 100 percent contained and 100 acres had burned. Firefighters continued their work Monday to put out hot spots and flare ups. Dry conditions mixed with gusty winds of 30 mph and above challenged crews initially. “The wind is gusting very strong today, all morning, even this afternoon so that’s been very tough,” Val Martin, of the Maui Fire Department, said on Monday.
