Tire fire at Sand Island in Honolulu sends huge plume of smoke into the air

The Honolulu Fire Department is investigating a two-alarm blaze at Sand Island that sent a huge plume of smoke into the air that could be seen miles away. HFD described it as a large tire fire. Nearly 40 firefighters responded around 9:15 a.m. to the fire at Tow Jams on Mikole Street. The fire was extinguished around 10 a.m. No injuries were reported. Fire damage estimates are not available yet. It comes as first responders are already busy preparing for Hurricane Douglas, which is approaching the island.
