A brush fire that broke out Saturday night near on property owned by Gay & Robinson near Salt Pond Beach Park in Hanapepe was put out by firefighters and company personnel. About 10 acres was scorched, with no injuries reported and no structures affected. The Kaua'i Fire Department got the call at approximately 6:45 p.m. Personnel from the Hanapepe and Kalaheo fire stations, and the on-duty Battalion Chief responded. Hanapepe firefighters were first on scene, and found a ring of burning brush approximately 75 feet in diameter. Due to the blaze’s location, firefighters extended their hose lines and shuttled water from engine to engine. Engine 5 pumped its tank into Engine 6 and refilled three times during the response. Firefighters soon gained control of the blaze when heavy equipment operated by Gay and Robinson personnel arrived.
