Maui Fire Department firefighters extinguish brush fire near Puunene; no evacuations ordered

Maui firefighters extinguished a brush fire on Saturday near Puunene, according to officials. Maui Emergency Management officials say they were notified of the fire at 10:36 a.m. located at Hammerhead Metals at the Central Maui Baseyard and it was extinguished just before midnight. The state health department issued a smoke advisory. MEMA said a pile of scrap metal recyclables caught on fire, but the fire was confined to the property, and no structures were impacted. No structures burned, and no one was hurt. Health officials recommend those impacted stay indoors with windows and doors closed and the AC on. MEMA officials said there were no evacuations.
