VIDEO: With fire prevention becoming one of the main priorities among Maui's safety officials since the August 2023 tragedy, state and county emergency leaders held a press conference Tuesday morning to discuss methods for avoiding wildfires.
Governor Green proclaimed June as Wildfire & Drought LOOKOUT! month after the gathering.
"Now in its eighth year, the initiative is designed to provide vital information and to equip people with the knowledge and tools necessary to prepare for and respond to the threats posed by wildfire and drought," a press release from Green's office read.
Maui Fire Department reported it has a plan in place for the upcoming Fourth of July holiday.
"Basically we have extra fire crews with an extra fire engine that are strategically located so that we have extra resources to respond," MFD Assistant Chief Giesea shared.
