Maui firefighters had their hands full in recent days, dealing with three separate brush fires, and a condo fire. One of the fires lasted several days. The first fire reported ignited on May 5 in the fallow ag lands near the Maui Veteran’s Highway. Crews have been working the scene since then and declared it fully extinguished Tuesday night around 7 p.m. On Wednesday, MFD said they were called to two separate fires in the Piihana Farms area in Wailuku. The first call came in just after 10:10 a.m. Crews arrived on scene and had it extinguished by 12:55 p.m. MFD said about an acre of brush burned along with an abandoned vehicle. A second fire was reported in a different area around 1:10 p.m. Flames there were put out around 3:25 p.m. Another abandoned vehicle was involved along with brush. Both fires didn’t threaten any structures.
