A Weather Alert Day is in effect as heavy rains continue to produce dangerous and life-threatening flooding for parts of Oahu.
Windward sections of Oahu, along with South Maui are receiving the brunt of the flood risk with pockets of heavy rains for central and leeward locations. Travel should be avoided in these areas until rains diminish.
Heavy rains have already caused mayhem on major roads in central and western Oahu with flooding, landslides and car crashes.
Showers will weaken tonight before a Kona Low brings another flood threat by midweek.
An official with the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) said, as of 5 p.m. Monday evening, crews have only responded to one rescue call due to flooding. The incident occurred in Kahaluu and involved three cars being disabled due to flooding conditions, the official said.
