In Des Moines, a report of smoke in the Ruan Building ended up trapping several people in the elevators Monday morning. Fire officials tell KCCI the elevators at the building at 666 Grand Avenue are supposed to automatically go to the exit floor when there's a fire. However, power to the elevators was shut off. Firefighters could find no signs of fire in the building after people were freed from the elevators. The cause of the smoke and the power outage are under investigation.
