As the Northwest Iowa Public Safety Training Center — also called the fire tower — is slowly becoming a reality on the east side of Spencer, local service clubs have joined together to help prepare the training center and county firefighters as they enter a new era of training and education. Similar to the Law Enforcement Appreciation Day event held in 2017, the groups will be conducting Clay County Firefighter Appreciation Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, March 10, at the Clay County Fair and Events Center. “All eight service clubs in the region, the three Kiwanis, three Lions groups, Spencer Jaycees and Rotary are all donating money and the presidents of all those clubs were working on this,” Spencer Rotary President Nancy Naeve said.
