No injuries were reported Friday in an explosion and fire at the Ag Partners grain elevator in Sheldon. It resulted in the closure of business on highway 60 in Sheldon in the vicinity of the elevator for about three hours Friday. Some homes and businesses in that area were also evacuated as a result. A drone from the Sioux County Sheriff's Office was deployed to detect any hot spots and to check on the structural integrity of the upper portions of the elevator. Assistant Sheldon Fire Chief Brad Hint says some debris and cracking was found in a silo and a catwalk had been blown out. The cause of the fire and explosion remain under investigation. A dollar estimate of damage wasn't immediately available. The Sheldon Fire Department was assisted by the Sanborn Fire Department. Officials were called to the scene shortly after 9:00 am Friday. They were on the scene about three and-a-half hours.
