A Centerville family has lost their home after it was destroyed by a fire Tuesday. The residence, located at 1497 North 14th St. in Centerville, was badly burned by a blaze reported at 9:41 a.m. Tuesday. Centerville assistant fire chief Vern Millburn said the cause of the fire remains under investigation, but they believe it started in the basement. When firefighters arrived Tuesday, flames were exposed from the exterior with large amounts of black smoke. Millburn said responders were able to see the smoke from the fire station as they left to the call. The home and items inside were a total loss, but there were no injuries caused by the fire. Millburn said there was one inside at the time, and they were alerted by a working smoke detector to the blaze and able to exit safely. The American Red Cross has assisted the family with a hotel stay.
