An early morning fire on Tuesday near Kamrar destroyed a hog confinement building and about 3,000 head of pigs housed in the building. Kamrar Fire Chief Tim Mortenson said Kamrar Fire Department personnel arrived on the scene at 2980 Lakins Grove Ave. about 6:30 a.m. The property is owned by Double G Farms, according to the Hamilton County Assessor’s website. “It was a total loss,” Mortenson said. “The building housed feeder pigs and 3,000 head were lost.” Mortenson said firefighters from Stanhope and Jewell responded to a call for mutual aid. “They were a very big help,” Mortenson said. “We were grateful for the mutual aid.” The chief said the cause of the blaze was undetermined. Shortly before noon, the firefighters were called back to the scene to knock down a few hot spots.
