The National Weather Service is predicting overnight lows this weekend to be just above or below freezing. That means furnaces will probably be working consistently for the first time since last winter. Newton Fire Chief Jarrod Wellik encourages you to make sure your furnace is ready. The Fire Chief’s advice comes in the midst of National Fire Prevention Week. He’s also encouraging residents to purchase the new model smoke detectors with sealed batteries in them. Wellik says those batteries last 10 years, so you don’t have to change them.
