An estimated $10,000 in damages were done by a small fire at a Jefferson residence and drug charges are also now pending against the occupants. The Jefferson Police and Fire Departments responded to a report of a structure fire in the 300 block of West Lincoln Way Street at approximately 6:55 p.m. Wednesday. Upon arrival, fire was located and extinguished in a second-story bathroom. During the event, firefighters advised officers they had seen a smoking device in plain sight in the bathroom. Consent was given by the occupants for a search, and authorities located and removed items suspected to be marijuana and marijuana wax, the smoking device and unlabeled prescription drugs. Charges are pending the completion of laboratory testing on the items seized. The smoking device is not suspected to have been the source of the fire. Firefighters believe a space heater may have caused the blaze.
