The Decorah Fire Department will hold a fundraiser next month at Toppling Goliath to raise money to buy a new river rescue boat. The department's current 14-foot boat doesn't work well in shallow water, according to fire department staff. That has led them to try to raise money--around $30,000--to buy a new jet drive boat recommended by some Iowa DNR employees. The February 7th fundraiser at Toppling Goliath will be open to 600 to 650 people, with tickets available at the Decorah Fire Department quarters at Decorah City Hall or from any Decorah firefighter.
