A criminal complaint states that a man started a fire in the ICU unit of MercyOne Medical Center. According to court documents, police responded to MercyOne at about 7:45 p.m. Saturday. Police said Andrew Boyd, 37, had been released from the mental ward of the medical center. Authorities said he went to the ICU unit and started a fire on the first floor. The Des Moines Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire. Boyd told officers that the reason he started the fire was because "he was bored," according to court documents. Police report several people were in the area when the fire was started. Boyd is being held at the Polk County Jail on $25,000 cash bond.
