The Arnolds Park-Okoboji Fire Department battled a tree fire late this (Monday) afternoon. Chief Chris Yungbluth tells KUOO news firefighters were called to the area of 322 Lake Drive in Arnolds Park "It was kind of hollowed out underneath and was burning from the inside. We were on the scene about an hour with the tree fire, trying to dig out space underneath there to try to get water to the fire. Anybody that's ever had a tree fire or tried to fight a tree fire knows that it can get pretty embedded inside the tree and make it difficult to put out." Yungbluth says no nearby structures were immediately threatened. "The fire wasn't burning hard enough to really be a concern unless it would have continued to burn and deteriorate the tree to the point where it would fall down."
