Alton Voters Approve Fire Station Bond

VIDEO: The results have come in for a bond to expand Alton, Iowa's local fire station. Preliminary results show the bond overwhelmingly passed with a vote of 335 to 11 The bond will fund an 8,800 square-foot addition to the Alton Fire Department. It is expected to include four new bays, a scrub room, and a meeting and training facility area. Fire Chief Quintin Vanes says the new addition will not affect property taxes. Vanes said, years ago, the community voted to collect a local option sales tax to help with debt relief. That's where the money for the new addition will come from. The preliminary budget is $2 million.
