The Marion Fire is teaming up with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to promote safe cooking this holiday season. As you start preparing your holiday schedule and family feast, the Marion Fire Department encourages all residents to follow a few simple safety tips, so you can enjoy time with your loved ones and keep yourself and your family safer from fire. Cooking fires can be prevented. Staying in the kitchen while cooking, using a timer, and avoiding distractions such as electronics or TV are steps everyone can take to keep families safe in their homes. According to the NFPA, the leading cause of kitchen fires is unattended cooking. Thanksgiving Day is the peak day for home cooking fires, followed by the day before Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and Christmas Eve.
