Officials responded to a grass fire in Lawton on Wednesday.
Bronson Fire and Rescue got a call reporting the fire at around 2 p.m. When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke and called in other fire departments due to to a low number of people in town.
Chief Devan Amick of Bronson Fire and Rescue told KCAU 9 that it looked like residents were attempting to burn something, possibly brush or a ditch. The fire got out of hand, burning 30-40 acres of farm field. No structures were impacted and no one was injured.
Amick said to be cautious when burning something on a dry day.
“Take everything into consideration, whether you got cornfields, tall grass around you, if it’s going to be safe to burn,” he said. “If it was a couple days ago with 50 mph winds, we’d have every department in Woodbury County here fighting this.”
