VIDEO: On March 5, 2023, Kathy Gerling and her grandson Noah were in a life-threatening car accident, just outside of Tiffin.
Dozens of first responders came to their rescue, got Gerling and her grandson out of the vehicle, and took them to UIHC, where Gerling learned of her extensive injuries. “I had my C1 and two vertebra fractured, several broken ribs. Both of my legs were broken,” says Gerling.
Now, more than a year later, she’s made nearly a full recovery, and credits the volunteers and other responders who sped to the scene with saving her life. “I wanted to let them know that I too appreciated what they did. This is huge. People just don’t tell them well, how things turn out or show them gratitude. And they should. Because I know without them I wouldn’t be here,” says Gerling.
